In this episode of Methane Talks, we are joined by Tomás Bredariol, Energy and Environmental Policy Analyst at the International Energy Agency (IEA).

Listen as he shares valuable insights on the energy industry’s progress toward achieving the Net Zero Emissions 2030 scenario, the IEA's plans to support countries in integrating stronger methane abatement commitments into their national plans, the new IEA, UNEP, and EDF framework, and a preview of the upcoming Global Methane Tracker 2025.

As a key player in the global energy conversation, the International Energy Agency (IEA) offers expert analysis, comprehensive data, and actionable policy guidance to support countries in delivering reliable and sustainable energy for everyone. Emphasizing an inclusive approach that considers all fuels and technologies, the IEA advocates for policies that strengthen energy security, affordability, and environmental sustainability. Its work spans a wide range of topics, including renewable energy, oil, gas, and coal markets, energy efficiency, clean energy innovations, electricity systems and markets, energy access, and demand-side management, among other critical issues.

Tomás led the analysis on methane emissions for the International Energy Agency's World Energy Outlook 2024 and the Global Methane Tracker 2024. He was also a key author of the World Energy Outlook Special Report on The Oil and Gas Industry in Net Zero Transitions. Before joining the IEA, he worked as a Policy Officer at the Brazilian Institute of the Environment and Renewable Natural Resources, within the Environmental Permitting Directorate. In this role, he was responsible for conducting environmental impact assessments, coordinating emergency response efforts, and overseeing follow-up activities related to the permitting of offshore oil and gas projects. Tomás holds a degree in Environmental Engineering and a Master’s in Public Policy, Strategy, and Development.
