A key component of new regulation requires flare stacks to have a combustion efficiency of 99%. Therefore, it is now crucial for operators to develop flare specific emissions factors whilst also addressing flare reduction. This workshop will delve into innovative flaring solutions, exploring their viability and potential to enhance efficiency and sustainability.  


  • Understanding the influence and measurement of destruction efficiency when calculating emissions factors 
  • Building a theoretical model of destruction efficiency 
  • Lessons learnt on different method reliability from across 20 global assets  
  • Setting KPIs and metrics for evaluating flare efficiency, including flare gas recovery rates, combustion efficiency, and flare tip velocity 
  • Evaluating techniques such as vent gas capture and re-injection, vapor recovery systems, and process optimization to reduce venting emissions and conserve valuable resources 
  • Avoiding wasted gas by assessing alternative methods to closed flares for avoiding non-combusted flares

New LDAR requirements introduce a significant challenge for operators, far beyond what is being required of their US counterparts: not only must they detect methane leaks, but they must also quantify them with precision. OGI technology has been a staple of methane detection, but many now have questions about how such technologies can be adopted and integrated into new LDAR programs to ensure compliance. This workshop will: 


  • Analyse effectiveness of OGI tech for Type 1 LDAR campaigns – can they meet the 17g/hour detection threshold?  
  • Evaluate how OGI can allow operators to safely and accurately measure at close proximity to emissions sources, in line with regulatory requirements 
  • Address limitations of traditional OGI technologies and explore how quantification capabilities can be integrated 
  • Discuss training requirements and best practices for effective deployment of the technology

Amongst a landscape of costly technologies required for methane reduction and regulatory compliance, transforming waste into value is crucial for modern operations. By transforming excess gas into marketable products such as fuels, power, and specialty chemicals, you can achieve both environmental compliance and profitability. This workshop will focus on the strategies and technologies that enable this, including: 


  • Evaluating site-specific conditions to identify most appropriate methods  
  • Conducting a techno-economic analysis of available solutions. What solutions can be deployed at a negative net cost?  
  • Considering factors such as commodity pricing to demonstrate true emissions reduction capability, payback period, possible net present value 
  • Interplay between long-term technology investment and rapidly changing regulation. What investments are truly viable?

It is common to find discrepancies between bottom-up and top-down methane inventories. This makes reconciliation of estimations imperative for those looking to accurately understand and quantify their emissions baseline. This workshop will show you how to: 


  • Develop a framework to improve emission inventory calculation methods 
  • Evaluate assumptions applied to top-down measurements to account for gaps between estimates 
  • Unpack different results produced from bottom-up inventory calculations 
  • Explore how emerging technologies and data driven tools can enhance the reconciliation process, reducing uncertainties
